  • Welcome to Stacey Dershem Photography!

    Serving the Wichita Kansas Area

I am an on-location, lifestyle and portrait photographer. I specialize in high school senior photography.

  • ABOUT ME?

Welcome!! My name is Stacey Dershem. Let's not be strangers - so let me tell you a bit about me. I love fashion (shoes!!), music, going to movies, and I am hooked on watching 'So You Think You Can Dance' and 'Downton Abbey'. It is WAY past time for my Pinterest intervention. I love collecting cool quotes, traveling, singing in the car, and taking long walks with my black lab, Jetta. "My name is Stacey and I am a Starbucks addict. "

Seniors are my FAVORITE subjects to photograph. They are young and fun and not afraid to be unique. Their adult lives are just beginning and everything is in front of them! My thoughts on Senior Photography in 100 words or less? Besides your wedding pictures and your birth photo, is there a more important image you'll EVER have taken? NO! I hate it when I see Seniors who have a standard studio shot as their Senior portrait. What does that image tell me about you? Nada. Don't go there. Let's design a session around you, go to cool locations, showcase YOUR interests, talents and loves in creative ways. Let's tell YOUR STORY.

So, enough about me. I'd love to get to know you and tell you more about my senior portrait experience So call me, maybe? LOL. For now, grab something to drink, relax and take a look around.

Welcome, I'm very glad you're here!

Snow Ballerina Concept Shoot | Hannah, Wichita East High School | Wichita Senior Photographer

You know how during the off-season, athletes do conditioning?  Well, in the weather-induced photography “off-season”,  one of the things photographers can do to stay “conditioned” is to do Concept Shoots.  These shoots are sessions that are just a little more artsy than a normal shoot – just something the photographer wants to try out.  I’ve been waiting FOREVER for snow so that I could try out a “snow ballerina” concept shoot, and was actually thrilled when that 14 inches of snow appeared in the forecast (but that was the only reason I was thrilled, lol!)  With only about an hour’s notice, the amazing Ms Hannah agreed to meet me in the middle of the snow onslaught.  We trudged through a huge field of knee deep snow into a clearing of trees I’ve had in mind for this shoot.  I tromped down about a foot of snow for Hannah to work in, and as the snow fell, asked her to do some free-style poses for me.  It was soooooo cold, and she was in ballet shoes and her tutu, so we had to work quickly, but I think we got some great images.  Ever the professional, every pose that Hannah did was perfection; just look at her hands and arms in every pose.

Hannah, thank you SO much for modeling for this shoot; I’m looking forward to working with you again in more “normal” conditions!

Trinity High School Senior, DJ | Wichita Senior Photographer

Take an All-American type of young man – faithful, smart, funny, outgoing and friendly.  And then add in a bunch of talent – football, guitar, and singing.  And lastly, add in a few interests – skateboarding, boxing/fitness, cars and anything to do with California.  That’s DJ from Trinity High School.  I spent a very fun day yesterday with DJ and his Dad and Mom taking  DJ’s Senior pictures on a windy Kansas day.

DJ, here’s wishing you a great finish to your Senior year.  Enjoy school in San Diego – maybe I’ll see you out there!

Emily – KMC Class of 2013 Senior | Wichita Senior Photographer

Your Senior pictures should tell YOUR story.  When we designed Emily’s Senior Photoshoot, we wanted to highlight the fact that she once lived in England.  As you’ll see in her photos, we were able to give several of her portraits a decidedly “English” flair – through clothing (the classic English scarf and riding boots), through props (the red umbrella and black hat), and through posing.  Mission accomplished!  When you’re planning your Senior portraits, be sure and think about the story you want to tell, and then figure out how you’ll tell it!

The other thing Emily did an awesome job on was in selecting two of my FAVORITE colors to photograph Senior ladies in.  She chose a pretty coral color for one of her shirts (it also had lots of beading – that’s a major trend for Spring 2013.  More about that in future posts!), and she also chose that deep pink color, which looks gorgeous on her and also flatters almost all Senior ladies.  If you’re not sure what your best colors are, take a look at fashion magazines (or Pinterest!) and look at models with your hair color and complexion.  What colors flatter them most?

Emily, I had a such a great time photographing you!  Thank you for the fun session (and the riding boot inspiration – I did go right out and buy a pair after your session!)  Wishing you a wonderful 2nd Semester of your Senior Year!

Haris | 2013 Wichita East High School Senior

Some Seniors just know what they want.   They know their personal style, they know what they love, and they know how they want their Senior Portraits to look.  During Haris’s consultation, it was immediately evident to me that Haris is one of those girls.  Haris has a lovely classic style, but with a lot of fun and whimsy thrown in.  She likes “girly” things – princesses and pink dresses, but she loves Old School too – classic movies like Casablanca, and classic stars like Audrey Hepburn (she gets that from her Mom, Theresa).  So when we started designing Haris’s session, we wanted to feature a little of all of those things, and I think we accomplished just that!  Haris did an amazing job with wardrobe, with a little extra thrown in.  Theresa has a background in fashion and design, and she was able to get creative with a whole bunch of yards of lovely pink tulle – so much fun!  And Haris was super comfortable in front of the camera – her personality just comes shining through in all of her images.

Thank you for an awesome session, Haris and Theresa!  I had such a fun time working with you both!
